Magdeburg has the station of the year

The Allianz pro Schiene has named Magdeburg Central Station station of the year 2025. This accolade is the culmination of the extensive renovation work carried out by Deutsche Bahn AG, the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the city of Magdeburg over several years.

The state has supported the comprehensive development of the station and its surroundings since the 1990s. This included relocating the central bus station, opening the station to the west with the creation of Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, and renovating the station building's façade.

“This award is wonderful recognition that our joint commitment to improving public transport in the state capital has paid off,” said Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Transport, Dr Lydia Hüskens. She emphasised that this positive development must now be maintained. ‘Another important milestone will be reached with the opening of Kölner Platz on 10 December,’ she pointed out.

Since 2018, Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH (NASA GmbH) has invested approximately seven million euros in redesigning the main station. This has enabled the renovation of additional exterior façades and the redesign of the pedestrian underpasses. The upgrade of Kölner Platz, which is of particular importance to the state and is also part of the project, is nearing completion.

NASA GmbH, a state-owned company, supports the city of Magdeburg in the continuous development of the station area, providing ongoing funding and advice. Recently, an urban development concept for Konrad-Adenauer-Platz was launched, and improvements to the quality of the central bus station were promoted.
