Timetable change due to construction work: Regionalexpress runs through to Stendal

Timetable change due to construction work: Regionalexpress runs through to Stendal

From tomorrow (01.04.), the Regionalexpress (RE) 4 will run from Berlin through to Stendal.

"With the temporarily extended service, we are offering travellers a good and, above all, transfer-free alternative to the ICE connection, which will probably have to be cut until the end of June due to construction work," explained Saxony-Anhalt's Minister for Infrastructure and Digital Affairs, Dr. Lydia Hüskens, in Magdeburg today.

Lydia Hüskens emphasised that it was not a matter of course for the state to increase services in local rail passenger transport in order to compensate for cancellations in long-distance rail transport due to construction work. "We are all the happier that we have succeeded in guaranteeing passengers connections to the federal capital with the service expansion of the RE4," the minister added.

For your information:

Construction work will start tomorrow on the ICE high-speed line Hanover - Stendal - Berlin. Because the tracks between Rathenow and Wustermark are being renewed, the section of line can only be travelled on one track until June 20th. Depending on the construction phase, DB Fernverkehr AG will run through the construction section in only one direction; trains from the opposite direction will be diverted via Magdeburg and will not stop in Stendal.

For this reason, the state of Saxony-Anhalt and NASA GmbH, together with the state of Brandenburg, have ordered additional services from the operator of the RE4, DB Regio AG Nordost, which will enable passengers to travel by local rail passenger transport (SPNV) without changing trains.

During the construction phase, the RE4 will be extended by sixteen daily journeys to and from Stendal. Instead of terminating in Rathenow, it will run every two hours between Stendal and Berlin on the high-speed line without a stop between Rathenow and Stendal Hbf.

The RB 34 Stendal Hbf - Rathenow with intermediate stops in Hämerten, Schönhausen and Großwudicke basically runs according to the regular timetable. In Rathenow, however, only the connection from Berlin will continue to be guaranteed due to the changed RE4 timetable.

The journey from Stendal to Berlin Hbf takes about 75 minutes with the RE4 instead of the regular 55 minutes with the ICE. The connection in Stendal Hbf from and to Hanover is ensured by DB Fernverkehr AG with additional shuttle trains, which are coordinated with the RE4.
