RE13: Reinforcement on the Magdeburg - Leipzig route
Since 8 July, longer trains have been running on the RE13 Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof - Leipzig Hauptbahnhof. This has increased the seating capacity on this busy regional express line by up to 70 seats per train. The costs of around €870,000 are being shared by the state of Saxony-Anhalt, represented by NASA GmbH, and the Zweckverband für den Nahverkehrsraum Leipzig (Leipzig Public Transport Authority/ ZVNL).
So far, trains with 234 and 282 seats have been used on the RE13. DB Regio AG, the operator of the RE13, was able to acquire two additional three-car railcars from Central Hesse. These have been in regular service since Monday in double-traction and offer 352 seats (176 per coach). The vehicles had previously been used on the RE 13 on a trial basis. They will be supplemented by two further 282-seat double units from the existing fleet and a five-car multiple unit with 234 seats. This means that three of the four train formations used on the RE13 will have an additional capacity of 50 to 70 seats.
As the additional vehicles currently used on the RE13 will be used for other purposes from 2 December, DB Regio AG, ZVNL and NASA GmbH are working intensively on a solution to provide additional capacity after December.
