From 28 November, continuous train service between Magdeburg and Berlin will resume.

From 28 November, it will once again be possible to travel by train between Magdeburg and Berlin without interruption. DB InfraGO is making the necessary technical arrangements. Initially, three trains per hour in each direction will be able to travel on the section of track between Biederitz and Möser that was affected by the signal box fire in Gerwisch. This will restore 80 per cent of the train volume that ran on the line before the fire.

Since the signal station was completely destroyed in a fire on 23 September, only a limited number of trains have been able to run. The RE1 Magdeburg–Berlin and RB40 Braunschweig–Burg services are therefore being replaced by buses on parts of the route, while long-distance and freight trains are being diverted over a wide area. From 28 November, one regional train, one long-distance train and one freight train per hour in each direction will be able to run on the line.

This will enable the RE 1 to resume its regular service, meaning that the replacement bus service between Magdeburg and Möser will no longer be necessary. Due to an extension in journey times caused by technical issues, the exact stop concept has not yet been determined and will be planned in the coming days. As full line capacity has not yet been reached, replacement buses will continue to serve the RB 40 between Biederitz and Burg. Deutsche Bahn thanks passengers for their patience and apologises for the inconvenience.

Further improvements for passengers are expected in the first quarter of 2026, when the neighbouring signal stations in Biederitz and Möser are integrated into the system. This will require extensive cabling work, modifications, new transmission technology, and adapted and tested planning documents. Once these construction steps have been completed, all trains that previously used the line will be able to run again without restriction.

DB InfraGO also plans to build a new electronic signal station (ESTW) in Gerwisch. Commissioning the ESTW will create additional capacity, which is necessary for diverted traffic, for example. According to current estimates, planning, constructing and commissioning such a signal station will take up to 12 months.
