Kötzschau station now significantly more comfortable for passengers

The access road to Kötzschau railway station (Saalekreis district) opened today. According to Dr Lydia Hüskens, Saxony-Anhalt's Minister for Infrastructure and Digital Affairs, the path to platform 1 has been renovated. Cyclists can now also lock their bikes in the covered parking facility with 10 spaces directly at the platform entrance, which protects them from the weather. Six lockable bike boxes are also planned for the near future. Five Park+Ride spaces and one disabled parking space, which can also be used by taxis, are available for commuters.

"This completes the first part of the conversion to a modern interface," said the minister today at the inauguration of the comprehensively renovated road and the area around the station. “It is now easier, more convenient and more comfortable to switch from your own car to the train,” she added.

A total of €290,000 has been invested in redesigning the station area to date. €233,200 of this is state funding from the interface programme.

The second construction phase on platform 2 is scheduled to begin next year. Additional Park+Ride and Bike+Ride spaces are also planned here.

‘Mobility means freedom. This also includes having a genuine choice of transport. We want people in Saxony-Anhalt to be able to choose any form of mobility they want. This requires well-developed infrastructure, including cycle paths, roads, and attractive local public transport services. We are working on this every day,” concluded Lydia Hüskens. The investment in the district of Leuna is a prime example of this.
