On behalf of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, NASA GmbH has developed an inter-modal information platform called Mobilitätsportal Mitteldeutschland, which covers various modes of transport.
A fundamental aim of this portal is to provide users/passengers with comprehensive information, thereby allowing them to make suitable decisions when selecting a mode of transport and route.
The purpose of the transport information project known as "Verkehrsinformationen des Straßenverkehrs für das Mobilitätsportal Mitteldeutschland (ViSA)" is to obtain high-quality road traffic information on the basis of floating car data (FCD); this information is then processed for further use via the Mobilitätsportal Mitteldeutschland and integrated into the portal's background systems.
Specifically, the map of the mobility portal should show the level of service (quality of traffic flow on the roads) including travel times and any time lost, taking into account unforeseen events (e.g. accidents) and the impact of construction sites and roadworks on traffic. In the case of the latter, the user of the mobility portal should also be informed of the location, duration and, where applicable, the reason for the closure/restriction.
When calculating route requests for the car, up-to-date traffic conditions on the road network should be included and combined or compared with other route results for different modes of transport (public transport, bicycle, by foot). This should enable users of the mobility portal to make appropriate decisions when selecting a mode of transport and route.
In order to ensure the highest possible quality of transport information and data, a range of tools, such as analytical tools, should be developed and made available to quality management in the company.
